Click: An Online Love Story by Lisa Becker

Fast approaching her 30th birthday and finding herself not married, not dating, and without even a prospect or a house full of cats, Renee Greene, the heroine of Click: An Online Love Story, reluctantly joins her best guy pal on a journey to find love online in Los Angeles. The story unfolds through a series of emails between Renee and her best friends (anal-compulsive Mark, the overly-judgmental Ashley and the over-sexed Shelley) as well as the gentlemen suitors she meets online. From the guy who starts every story with "My buddies and I were out drinking one night," to the egotistical “B” celebrity looking for someone to stroke his ego, Renee endures her share of hilarious and heinous cyber dates. Fraught with BCC's, FWD's and inadvertent Reply to All's, readers will root for Renee to "click" with the right man.

My Review:

Are you a Sex in the City fan?  If so, then this book is for you!!!  In this book, you will meet Renee, a soon to be 30 yr old and her best friends Mark and Shelley.

The interesting thing about this book is the concept on how it was written.  It's all in email format.

If you are looking for a fun read then this is the book for you.  So go grab your favorite adult beverage, kick off your designer shoes, find a comfy chair and read this book!  Then when you are done, make sure you email and tell all of your friends on your social media sites all about Click: An Online Love Story!

Thank you to the author for providing me with a complimentary copy of the book for my honest review.

Planet Willie by Josh Shoemake

Willie Lee is a highly unusual angel. Irreverent, hilarious, and politically incorrect, he tends to make the most of his time on Planet Earth whenever he gets sent down as a detective in the Paradise Police Department, Lost Souls Division.

Now Willie's on the trail of a beautiful art dealer named Fernanda Shore who may have stolen her father's prized painting and who's wandered far off the straight and narrow. And Willie's looking for any excuse to extend his time away from the boring clouds. Which partially explains the belly dancers, the fine Western apparel, the Albanian terrorists, the cape, the bourbon, the nuns, and the cliffs of Acapulco.

Et cetera.

Because for Willie it's the et cetera that makes life worth living, as long and as hard as they’ll let him.

"Fasten your seat belts and prepare for loop-de-loops. Willie is one hell of a ride." - Book Monthly

My Review:

The author's vision is very original.  I can honestly say I've never read anything quite like it before!

The main character is Willie Lee, who is an Angel in heaven awaiting change.  He receives his wish and he is assigned as a detective from the Paradise Police Department to incarnate and return to earth to investigate an Art theft.

I really enjoyed the author's writing and wit.  I look forward to reading more of his books.  The book was cleverly written and I have to say anything, nothing like I have ever read before.

Thank you to the publisher for providing me with a complimentary copy for my review.

Get ready for adventure! School's out, and Max is gearing up for a summer of baseball with his friends. He's expecting fun in the sun and long, lazy days. But to his surprise, he finds himself transported to a strange and wonderful world after chewing magical blueberry bubble gum-bubble gum his parents warned him not to chew! Join Max in his adventures through Blueberry Bubble Gum World and meet the fascinating creatures who live there-the Blueberry Boy, King Erudition, and the lumpy, moldy green evil Waywards. Will Max learn his lesson and find his way home? Find out in this thrilling journey!

My Review:

I always read the books I receive to review first before I give them to my children to read.

I hate to admit it but I was surprised as to what happened to Young Max when he didn't listen to his parents!  And I even laughed out loud when I realized what happened!  Not just laughed, I mean giggled like a teenager.  And that my readers takes a lot now that I'm older! :0)

This book definitely went a different way then I thought it would.

I'm not going into very much detail on this book and to tell you what happened to Max. That my friends is for your children to find out.  Let's just say you will have a new outlook on bubble gum after reading this book.

I recommend this book for children ages 7 and up.  My tween thought this book was funny and still talks about it to this day.

An Ordinary Toad's Extraordinary Night by Joanne McGonagle

One of the requirements of the  master of zoology program was to write a plan about how we thought we could  make a difference in the world.  My master's journey began with the inspiration from an article by Peter Slovic: "If I look at the mass, I will never act": Psychic numbing and genocide." This article discusses how the phenomenon of psychic numbing paralyzes humans and prevents them from taking action to help others in need. I thought if this was true for humans suffering, wouldn't it be true for the big cats tooI wondered if we could deliver a message of hope instead of desperation, of success instead of failure, through compelling storytelling could we lure others into caring about the world around them?  If I could get people to care about one tiger, could I get them to begin to care about all tigers and motivate them to save the entire species?
My master plan focused on big cats and they are considered charismatic megafauna. The term charismatic megafauna refers to large well-known animal species that garner a disproportionate share of the public's attention. The tiger is the world's most popular animal according to a survey conducted by Animal Planet. The big cat even beat out the dog for the number one position. These species have the "wow factor" that grabs the public's attention to try to save them. The koala certainly is charming, but a small toad....perhaps not.
During the peer review process of our master plans one of my colleagues asked me a compelling question. Tim asked, "How would the results be different if you picked a less cute animal or a non-charismatic megafauna? There are many people that like tigers, but how about something that they do not make stuffed animals or commonly occur in Winnie the Pooh cartoons?  Frogs and Toads need help too."
This is an important question. What about all the living beings that aren't cute and cuddly or fierce and admired?
Driving one day, I thought about toads.  Then I wondered why frogs seem to be the preferred amphibian.  I imagined a young toad named Andrew. I wish I could tell you why his name is Andrew but I honestly don't know. But I began to tell Gracey, she was a great listener, the story of a Andrew the young toad that wondered if his life might have been better had be been hatched a frog.  And that is how An Ordinary Toad's Extraordinary Night came to be.
Thank you for caring for all animals, big and small. Charismatic or non-charismatic, we need them all and they need our help and protection.

My Review:

In this book, you get to meet Andrew, a young toad who is going to visit his Grandpa.  Your child will learn the differences between toads and frogs.

This book is especially great if your child loves amphibians.

I recommend this book for teachers, children's libraries, and a child's own library.

If You Were Me and Lived in South Korea by Carole Roman

Carole P. Roman takes you on a journey this time to Asia, landing in South Korea. Once again, children can learn how life is like for young people on the other side of the globe. From food to famous landmarks, they will learn that's it's easy to find something in common with people in different countries.

My Review:

I personally love books like this!

I think it's important that our children learn about all of the various cultures that make up our wonderful world!

This book was written so that children can easily comprehend what the author is trying to say.

This would be a great book teachers, libraries, or a child's own book collection!

My oldest really looked forward to reading this book.  We talked about the book after she read it and she told me everything she had learned about the South Korean culture and thought some of their traditions were pretty cool.

The author did a fantastic job and we look forward to reading more of her books!

The Adventures of Blue Ocean Bob by Brooks Olbrys

Despite his idyllic island life, young Bob yearns for a greater sense of fulfillment. With his guardian, Xena the hummingbird, at his side, Bob sets out to seek guidance from the wise and happy creatures of the sea.

From the joyful secrets of Al the dolphin to the insightful advice of Doc the turtle, Earl the clam, and Wallace the walrus, Bob uncovers great wisdom. But to complete his journey, he'll need to overcome his fears - and Xena's doubts - and prove himself to Mary Marine, the Island of Roses's leading marine biologist.
The Adventures of Blue Ocean Bob: A Journey Begins is the first episode of a colorful, early chapter book series that provides children with an introduction to timeless principles of achievement derived from the teachings of Bob Proctor, Earl Nightingale, Napoleon Hill, Wallace D. Wattles, and others.

My Review:

"Set a goal from your vision"

"Persistence pays off"

This book is a really well written childrens book.  I love the inspiration and encouragement for the children.

The story about Blue Ocean Bob takes your child on a whimsical journey.  They will learn about Bob his guardian, Xena, and the other animals Doc, Earl, and Wallace.

This would be a great chapter book for older children to read and a good chapter book for parents to read to their little ones each day for story time.

I recommend this book for teachers, childrens libraries, and a child's own library.

Thank you to the author for providing me with a complimentary copy for me to review.
